Everything you need to know about the UK Public Charge Point Regulations
In line with UK Government guidelines – the UK Public Charge Point Regulations shapes the future of electrical vehicle (EV) charging by setting clear standards for reliability, accessibility, and transparency.
Here at evyve, we want to make sure you always have an easy, enjoyable experience whenever you use our public charging stations. Split across 6 criteria points, we’re proud to say that we are fully compliant with these regulations. We take them seriously as part of our aim to always offer the best service and support to all evyve users.
We’ve put together this short guide to help you understand the UK Public Charge Point Regulations.
Pricing Metric
The maximum price of a charging session must be displayed clearly in pence per kilowatt hour (p/kWh).
At evyve, the cost of charging is clearly displayed in pence per kilowatt hour at our chargers on the payment terminals, on the evyve App, Roaming networks, and on our website.
Contactless Payment
New public charge points of 8kW and above and existing charge points of 50 kW and above must offer contactless to consumers.
All evyve charge points of 50kW and above come with contactless payment terminals — enabling customers to pay via credit / debit card, roaming RFID card, Apple / Google Pay, and the evyve App.
24/7 Helpline
A free-to-use 24/7 staffed telephone helpline must be available and advertised at all charge points.
Delivering customer satisfaction is paramount to us at evyve. Our free-to-use customer support telephone line is displayed on all our charge points, on the evyve App, and on our website.
Roaming
Charge Point Operators (CPOs) must enable consumers to pay through at least one roaming provider at their charge points.
We’re proud to be one of the pioneers in embracing roaming and work closely with all major roaming networks providing customers with a wide network of roaming providers to transact with.
Reliability
Rapid charge points must be 99% reliable, measured as an average across each CPO’s rapid network.
Throughout 2024, our network has consistently operated at over 99% reliability, measured through Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) object statuses using the Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI) protocol as the mandated data standard within these regulations.
Open Data
All data must be accurate, and CPOs must use the OCPI to hold and open their data.
Evyve adheres to the Open Charge Point Interface as a standard, allowing accurate and open access to essential data for governmental bodies, Distribution Network Operators, and Electricity System Operators.
